  • I completely failed to mention what I did on Sunday.   Took
off to Nicasio with Jen to chill in the ‘middle of nowhere’ and listen
to an acoustic show from Box Set and enjoy some tasty bbq on the lawn
at Rancho Nicasio.  I was feeling very tired throughout the day so
I wasn’t all that chatty but I still had a fun time.  Those BBQ
oysters were tremendous. I know i should’ve gone back for more!

I picked up both Box Set and Raina Rose’s (portland songwriter chick)
cds so I have something new to listen to at work this week.

Tentative plans for tonight got scuttled….so if anyone is
around,  give me a ring.  I probably shouldn’t have flaked on
that focus group I was going to do tonight….could’ve used the extra
money but I would’ve rather gone out.  The night is still
young,  give me a call if anyone is up for anything.
Otherwise it is a fun night of moving boxes from my car to my
apartment,  laundry,  maybe even grinding out some poker
bonuses now that a new month has rolled around.

Think I may hit Bitter End tomorrow night for pub-trivia,  this time with the sf-newcomers group.  The rest of the week?  Who knows….we’ll see what happens!

  • from the stealing-others-blog-content dept.

And now I will show you the most excellent way:
    If
I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a
resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy
and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have a faith
that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give up
all I possess and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I
    gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; it does not envy; it
does not boast; it is not proud. It is not rude; it is not
self-seeking; it is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always
protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
    Love never
fails. But where there are prophecies, they will pass away; where there
are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will
pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when
    perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
    When I was a child, I
talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a
    poor reflection, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.

  • I think I like to think that i’m spontaneous.  I absolutely love
it when a friend calls me out of the blue and wants to go hang
out.   But when unexpected things happen and there is an
emotional connection there,  I have trouble dealing with it.
I deal with it,  it just isn’t the easiest.  I changed a lot
between high school and college,  and even moreso between college
and the present.  I just have to find the happy medium……

Music track selection is what just came on mtv-hits…..catchy song,  gotta grab it off iTunes later…..

  • Ended up not going to the beach last night,  but instead went to
see War of the Worlds.  Decent movie,  but that ending.
ARGH!   Those who’ve seen it know what I mean.  I
haven’t read the book in years,  but it can’t have the same
ending.  I think I want to get on bit-torrent and download the
    original radio broadcast…..

Oh,  I got my security deposit back (well, some of it. :) ) from
my old apartment.  I wasn’t expecting it back,  so it is
almost like free money.  Free money which i’m going to *save* of course.

With the bouncing around that one of my favorite stocks
has been doing lately, a little extra money in the bank eases my
mind.  I am not concerned at all long-term about the stock.
Its prospects are great.  It is a company with a ~2 billion market
cap,  with analysts making conservative sales projections of about
~1 billion for Byetta/Symlin.  If you throw in the earnings
multiple,  and try to take account the fantastic pipeline that Amylin has,  you can see why I believe strongly in this company’s future.

  • I had planned on seeing American Hi-Fi and Reel Big Fish tonight at the
Fillmore.  Instead, I came home and collapsed on the couch.
Mainly because AHF isn’t even on the tour anymore.  I should’ve
known this before I bought the tickets. Oh well.

I will definitely sleep well tonight.  On my bed.  I think
tonight is a good night to begin sleeping on my bed.  I don’t have
the comforter on it,  so I won’t be overly warm.  I’m just
not used to such a large, comfortable, bed.  Another reason i’ll
sleep well is because I went to the gym for the first time in
ages!  I am totally exhausted,  but happy.

Criss Angel: Mindfreak on A&E is interesting….i can see how he
does a few of the illusions,  but i haven’t flipped the channel
yet.  Think i’ll tell my TiVo to record the shows i’ll inevitably
    miss….

July 25, 2005

  • Well, I didn’t end up finishing Sideways.  I was into the
movie,  just had a million different things going on this weekend.
Finally finished getting all the comforters/sheets/pillows, etc for my
new bed.  Dropped about another $900 this weekend on that
bedding.  I guess i can go without a frame for the bed for a while
now…..does one really need a headboard?  My bed looks
nice,  regardless.  I still slept on my couch for some reason
    last night.   Who knows why.

I did end up watching the Sunday night game on espn. Not the most
exciting game in the world,  but I had good company so i’m not
complaining.  Although seeing the Cubs win on an extra-inning
    grand slam was definitely disappointing.

Dinner at El Super wasn’t La Cumbre-quality,  but tasty and cheap
nonetheless.  Plus they’re open until 11 every day….gotta love
    that.

Got to work today @ 7:30 in the morning….so i’ve been working non
stop for the last five and a half hours or so.  Insane but I still
have a ton to do…i may even stay a little late tonight. Not much on
tap for my evening,  tomorrow i’m going to the reel big fish /
american hifi show at the Fillmore.  Can’t wait!

And thanks to a random video on mtv-hits in the middle of the night, I
have stumbled upon Matisyahu.   Looks like i’m going to go
    into a dub/reggae phase now….

July 23, 2005

  • Okay,  its a little toasty today in San Francisco.

I realized this while walking over to Macy’s to buy sheets, a
comforter,  pillows, and the like for my bed.
Actually,  more like on the way home trudging through the streets
with my bags. I feel like this weekend has flown by.  I know its
only Saturday,  but I can see not having too many free moments to
run errands tomorrow.  I’ve got tickets to the Giants game in the
afternoon,  and in the early evening my friend Monika is coming
over to watch the Cards-Cubs game on espn.  GOOO CARDINALS!
    (okay,  forced enthusiasm……that should be…..GO <insert
    team playing the Cubs>!!!”

I still have a million different things I need to get for my
apartment,  hooks for my walls, a screw to secure my bookshelf to
the wall (so i can finaly empty the boxes and boxes of books I
    have),  etc. etc.

And I need to finish Sideways before tomorrow night.
AAaggghhh.  I guess i’ll watch it when I get home….this blog is
courtesty of free wi-fi at the greatest ballpark in the majors,
    SBC Park!   GO GIANTS!

July 20, 2005

  • Holy shit.  Pardon my language,  but its been a while and I
can’t believe how much i’ve been slacking in regards to the blog.
Of course,  I do have excuses.

I was really preoccupied with finding an apartment in the City and my
actual move.  I still have a ton of boxes left to unpack,
but I find myself going out and getting into (spontaneous) mischief
when I really should be putting books on my shelf and stocking my
    kitchen.

I haven’t even plugged in my TiVo yet!

I do have high-speed internet now,  thanks to http://www.speakeasy.net
Best ISP i’ve ever dealt with.  Very smooth install.  (Screw
you SBC,  verio, and comcast!)   Two static ip’s, a
shell account,  and usenet bandwidth.  I’m a very happy geek
these days,  not like I’ve been home much to be online.
    (giants game, volunteering, etc.)

As for my poker play,  i’m going to stick to freerolls for the
moment while I brush up on my reading.  “Harrington on Holdem” is
next up for me.  It has been raved about in the poker blogs i read
(guinnessandpoker, tao of poker) so it is about time.

Slowly but surely making new friends now that I live in the City….its
a lot easier when you’re living somewhere you want to be,  instead
    of stuck in the ‘burbs.

May 2, 2005

  • Quick hits from the last week in no particular order:

    • Went to the Donnas concert last Tuesday at Slims.  They put
on a fantastic show, even better than expected before their hometown
crowd.  (They grew up in Palo Alto.)  A band called Rock and
Roll Soldiers (from Eugene, OR) opened up for them.  They are
      worth checking out as well.
    • Met a cool girl “semi-blindly” after work Friday for a drink at
Voda.  She works a few blocks away from me.  Think things
went okay,  and i’ll probably see her sometime this week for lunch
or another drink, perhaps.  All platonic at this point….no
      expectations. :)
    • New Found Glory and Reggie + the Full Effect put on an incredible
concert last Wednesday at Slims.   I wish i had gone to see
them Thursday night as well,  but I was a little exhausted and
crashing at the office didn’t give me the best night’s sleep on
Wednesday so I passed on it.
    • If you like hot peppers and you like vodka,  I would still
advise against trying Inferno.  I don’t know how,  but it
sure knocked me on my ass.  I love vodka,  and could only
      finish half a glass.
    • I have been waiting six years to see Weezer in concert. I saw
them finally Friday night at the Warfield.  Well worth it,
although I wish that my friend Angela  (and friend-of-friend
Brian) could’ve been there for it.
    • At first glance,  Lucky Chances Casino in Colma has very little parking.  I eventually found the parking garage.
    • Amylin Pharmaceuticals is
now a huge player in diabetes pharmaceuticals with the introduction of
two first-class drugs to the market in two months (and a fair number of
years of research and slapping around from the FDA)
    • Another successful night playing $3-$6 holdem,  Saturday
night.  Bought in for $100,  cashed out for $130.  Not
bad to make money while being constantly entertained.   I was
consistently ahead for most of the time at the table.  I’ve only
played five or six times in the last half year,  and only had a
losing session once.  There is luck in poker.  There is also
skill in poker.  I’ve found both.
    • I think my friend Daria comes back from Romania either this week or next….gotta take her to sushi!
    • There was a queue a block long on Friday night in front of the
Apple Store in downtown SF for the debut of OS X 10.4,  and the
crowd didn’t look *that* geeky. I swung by after the Weezer show and
*almost* bought a Mac Mini on
an  impulse (they were giving out 10 percent discounts that night)
but thankfully  I came to my senses at the last minute.

    Good night folks!
