  • “on the road to wrestlemania

And so it begins. I’m QUITE excited about this little weekend adventure. I am going up to Seattle for a little r+r…..and to enjoy Wrestlemania XIX at Safeco Field this Sunday.  It won’t be any ordinary trip, as i’m taking the train up there tonight, getting in tomorrow with enough time to stash my things at my hotel, change clothes, and explore the “scene” (ie: drinking) of a Friday night in the Northwest.

My trip isn’t just limited to wrasslin’ though. Thanks to Vindigo on my Sony Clie 665, I found out that i’m staying right downtown, very close to a club where Flogging Molly are playing. They’re an irish punk band which is quite good. I even got Mom listening to them for a while!

I’m taking my laptop, and my hotel is wired, so expect an entry or two or three while i’m up in Seattle.  I can supposedly write xanga entries in my Clie and sync them up, so I may do that as well. I’ve got to take breaks in my reading sometime! I brought three books with me, two wrestling books and one book called “Skipping to Gomorrah.”  You’ll probably get a few book reviews this weekend as well.

Ciao folks. Enjoy your weekend, and if you’ve got my cell and would like a live update from wrestlemania (Hogans last match?) you know how to reach me.

  • And so my bracket is busted. So long Illinois and Louisville…..so long to my chances at winning that office pool.  I was doing well after the first round games as usual, but decided to take a few chances with my picks this year (Louisville, Maryland, Illinois, and Kentucky were my final four) so there goes that! Doesn’t matter….baseball season is soon anyway! WOOHOO.

I’m quite excited about my interview tomorrow. I think i’m probably over-qualified for the position, but we’ll see how I do on the interview.

I’m looking for apts in San Mateo/Burlingame also, since I like the suburbs…….and its convenient for work and cheaper than the City..

Heading to Seattle this next weekend for a little rest and relaxation. I can’t wait!

  • 11.6 million on Roller Coaster Tycoon pinball at the theatre after work tonight. 4th place (and a place on the scoreboard)….12.6 million!  damn! damn! damn.

New apple store opening on Burlingame Avenue. You can be sure that i’ve sent them my resume for that. Selling powerbooks would be cool……and that would definitely be a cool employee discount. Not that the movie theatre job doesn’t have its perks…..cool bosses, good hours (usually), and free movies. So far i’ve seen Daredevil, Cradle 2 the Grave, Shanghai Knights, The Recruit, Life of David Gale,  and Old School. Bad. Good. Okay. Good. Okay if you can look past the political message. and FUNNY.  But i like frat parodies…..

Didn’t make it into NPS,  but I will explore other possibilities for grad school.  Maybe.

  • And Friday marks the opening of the new Century 12 Cinema in downtown San Mateo.  It also marks the first official day of my movie career…..as in, i’ll be there selling you your ticket. Its a good second job (albeit full time/weekends, yikes!) but the work is easy and the free movies is a definite perk.  If software dev doesn’t pan out,  who knows, maybe i’ll be a general manager of a theatre one day.   Not exactly my first choice of careers,  but my options are always open.

I’ve been waiting for 15 years or so for a new theatre to open within 5 minutes of my house, and this will be a very very busy theatre, I expect.  This will probably stress me out at times, but I think I can manage. And along with my customer support job, I am barely scraping out a decent income. Not quite the SoftwareDev type of salary,  but it’ll do,  for now. Until I end up going to grad school, that is…….speaking of which, i’ve got more apps to work on.  Talk to y’all soon.

  • My Super Bowl bet paid off nicely. =)

Life will soon get very hectic for me, as my second job starts going full-time starting on Friday.  With this job (century theatre, san mateo), my customer support job, and my two classes,  I don’t know how i’ll find time for a life.  I’ll manage, I guess…….I always do.

I also have to take care of a few grad school apps which I have left, but luckily i have time to do that this week.

  • The beer is slowly disappearing from the fridge.

The bratwurst are simmering on the stove.

The bets have been placed. (Bucs +10, Over 38-two way teaser)

It must be Super Bowl sunday!

Ails” by Limp (not to be confused with Limp Bizkit)

well these walls they might hold me
and the rules they might mold me
but it’s all they told me what i’d be
    well the time is passing
    and my crime forgotten
and by now you think i could leave

and all i know is part of the show
the show is all there is to me
and all i am is where i stand
you’ree just too far to see

see the cells i live in
make the shell i’ve been given
painted red these skin colored walls
well the bars they held me
    and the scars my trophies
and by far it’s only the start

and all i know is part of the show
the show is all there is to me
and all i am is where i stand
you’ree just too far ,too far to see

your blue skies grey around here
winter burns, stones won’t turn cycle frozen
your day is night around here
and still i yearn for the day
    when i learn there’s a way
    out of here

and all i know is part of the show
the show is all there is to me
and all i am is where i stand
you’re just too far ,too far to see

  • I started a new round of Body For Life today.  Huzzah. I seem to have lost quite a bit of weight in the last year so I am incredibly optimistic that i’ll look even better by April.

Total craziness at College of San Mateo today. I know, i’ve got a Bachelors degree……what am i doing at [csm]…..keeping my mind from turning to mush.

First day of classes,  and i’m only in one out of the two classes i want.  The xml class should be fairly easy to get into……provided the people who didn’t show up today, don’t show up on wednesday.  I think my chances are 7 out of 8 that i’ll be in, based on the lottery that the prof wants to have.  Tuesdays and  Thursdays are for the PERL programming class…..I may even take a unix class just to keep my mind fresh,  but who knows.

Quite a bit of work to do tomorrow,  whether i tele-commute or head into San Francisco is to be decided……maybe i’ll go bowling too.  whee.

January 10, 2003

  • My phone interview with EDS on wednesday turned out as I had expected,  with a “thanks for applying” email arriving today.  I was put on the spot with a couple logic questions, but my mind blank on a basic probability question so that pretty much wrote me off. Ironic since i’ve gone gambling within the last month.

While that job lead has slipped away, a few others have popped up quite unexpectedly, including one in Philly which includes relocation! Thats a longshot, and i’m not even sure its a lead….yet.

I think i’m going to head off for a drink or two or three, at my usual friday night spot.  I’m super psyched that they put in a Crepevine on the Avenue in Burlingame……that place is sooo good!

Not much else to report……hope you all have a great weekend!
