  • Not only am I dating the most wonderful woman ever....but I moved in with her this weekend!  Yikes!  A little scary,  but quite exciting.   The cottage that Monika lives in is barely big enough for the both of us (and all my assorted boxes) but it will have to do for the next month or so,  and then we'll move into our own place on Russian Hill,  PacHeights,  North Beach.....we haven't really figured it out yet, actually.....

Not much else right now to report......

  • wow. just wow.

yikes,  i owe a lot in taxes this year.

  • It just strikes me as odd,   Monika has practically become a "poker blogger."  Two consecutive posts, babe?  I've managed to tone down my poker playing lately.  I'm working on freerolls and $5 tournaments in the cheap league at InternetTexasHoldem.com.  I've placed 14th out of 75 and 10th out of about 200 so far.  Five or so hours of entertainment. Total cost?  $0.00.   I've got trips to Vegas,  Germany, and Hawaii to save up for.....cut me some slack.  :)

  • In true Northwestern fashion...

Willie the Wildcat fumbles the ball.  And part of his right arm for that matter.  Funny that I ordered two bobbleheads and the Northwestern one was the one which broke during shipping.  I'll patch him up with some glue and he'll be as good as new right along side icon-of-the-midwest,  Ray from Menards.....definitely the strangest looking bobblehead in my collection....and yes,  my camera phone sucks.  no idea why it is so hazy...its impossible to touch the lens......

A couple weeks back,  my girlfriend was giving me shit about posting a screenshot from a poker tournament I won,  to this blog.   Hmmm.  This interview cracks me up....  I never knew I was dating an up-and-coming poker star.......I guess i'm partly to blame.  Not much else to say, except that i'm off to Bayside tonight for the weekly $20 tourney....where I hope to improve upon last weeks 10th place finish out of 22.

  • another incredible weekend.   i wish i could always eat as well as I did the past few days. zushi puzzle,  first watch (brunch),  postrio,  greens @ fort mason,  and then some very yummy bruschetta + roasted peppers.

what a boring superbowl.  didn't even bet on it. (the $10 in the office pool hardly counts)  only casually watched it,  while I cleaned up the apartment a bit.  My girlfriend is a rock star,  as she totally reorganized my kitchen.  I have space for everything now.  And it is CLEAN!  at least, the kitchen is.....

  • I had a song stuck in my head earlier today.  More tune and snippets of lyrics, than full song......unfortunately,  even with my mastery of Google,  I could not find the song that I was looking for.   Now,  much to my dismay,  I can not remember that tune.  Alkaline Trio's "We've Had Enough" has now taken over that part of my brain and even though I love the song,  I wish I could shake it for the song which drove me mad this morning between conference calls.

I have an hour to kill before heading off to an exhibit at the Exploratorium.  That means a pint or two from the Michelob Ultra keg and praying to the gods that Sirius channel 21 plays the song over their online stream.

  • Nothing beats the fact that i can now grab a halfway decent to-go order of polenta (with pesto or bolognese!) less than a block and half from my office.  Oh how i love our new office location.

Work today has been a little less stressful so far.  Still have a TON of things to do today,  but i'm not quite as frantic as I was last week.

You know you place complete trust in someone,  when you let them cut your hair.  While I initially was a bit nervous about it,  it actually turned out really well.  Once Monika finished cutting it of course.  She trimmed it a bit at first,  but since i had to go home at 11,  she didn't really cut the layers so it didn't look that great.  After a tiny fight about it,  I implored for her to finish the cut and it turned out great.  At least it didn't cost me $70 this time. Although I am planning to take Monika to a nice place (NOT Town Hall) for dinner in a couple weeks (an early Valentines Day celebration) so it all balances out.

Another fantastic tournament over the weekend.  Played in a $5 tournament and finished 9th out of 520 entrants..  Won about $39..  Not bad,  not a huge payout but still good experience..  I think I have a better understanding on how to end up "in the money" for these tournaments.

  • looking at my paycheck,  one thing makes me smile. i have 175 hours of vacation time racked up. that is over four weeks.  i wonder if they'll let me take every other day off for the next two months.

sometimes i wonder if i've done all i can here.  i want to remain loyal,  yet if i'm being paid 75 percent of what my co-workers are making,  and given *twice* the workload,   maybe it is time to explore my options.

  • I'm so proud

I have a girlfriend who mocks my [mild] geekiness.

  • wow. this song is truly pop garbage,  but i am still digging it.  i think mtv-hits has truly corrupted my musical tastes. my friends and co-workers think i have excellent taste in music......oh how they're fooled.   note to self.....turn off the videos,  turn on sirius.  (other than stern/maxim,  that is.)

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined

Im just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you

    Open up the dirty window

Let the sun illuminate the words that you can not find

Reaching for something in the distance

So close you can almost taste it

    Release your inhibitions

Feel the rain on your skin

No one else can feel it for you

Only you can let it in

No one else, no one else

Can speak the words on your lips

    Drench yourself in words unspoken

Live your life with arms wide open

Today is where your book begins

    The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way
